| "Maheshwar is a small
town in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Located on
the banks of the sacred Narmada river, Maheshwar has been
a centre of handloom weaving since the 5th century.
The current tradition owes its genesis to Maharani
Ahilyabai Holkar, who ruled the princely state of Indore
from Maheshwar during the last half of the 18th century.
Maheshwar saris were famous throughout western india
due to the patronage of the Royal House of Holkar."
